“I look at the world differently.” Alex Baker, Digitous Graduate

After working as a hairstylist for 12 years – even opening his own salon – Alex decided it was time for a change.
Drawing upon his enthusiasm for mathematics, he discovered a passion for computer science. Now, a year after completing his web developper training, Alex works as a developer at Cyclofix, a bicycle repair start-up that has grown substantially since lockdown.

Why did you want to change careers?

I was tired of my routine. I wanted to do something completely different. I’ve always loved math and I wanted to do something that would challenge me. 

Why did you want to become a web developer and what do you like about the job?

I love the consistent challenge. There is always something new to learn. And, it is one of the few jobs where one person, with few resources, can impact the entire world. 

What did you like most about DigiTous

The learning style and our teacher, Jenaic. He was such a great mentor and supported us even when things got hard. I think that for this type of training, it’s really important to have a hands-on teacher who is able to catch mistakes quickly and deliver one-on-one instruction. I also think Konexio’s mission is really inspiring – to make the digital world accessible to as many different people as possible. 

What did you learn in the soft skill workshops?

They were really interesting. Soft skills are valuable when you haven’t had a lot of education or are not confident in your abilities. 

How has DigiTous contributed to your personal and professional life?

My new job makes me see things differently. I look at the world differently. Life is a long road, and you have to keep learning. DigiTous is only the beginning.
