Meet Nyajuok, Nairobi DIP graduate preparing for the global digital transformation by building online freelance skills
Q1: Tell us a little about yourself and your background.
I’m Nyajuok from South Sudan, a form four leaver personate [an education level of 8 years Primary school plus 4 years Secondary school] now pursuing accounting. I have 8 siblings and my father is the breadwinner. Despite the challenges [he faces], he has managed to give us the most important gem: education.
Q2: How do you feel now that the DIP is coming to an end?
I'm grateful for the opportunity because it has really impacted a lot of things in my life. Most importantly, I have acquired computer skills to help me find an online job since tech is overtaking the world.
Q3: What new skills did you learn during this training program?
In the training program I was able to learn Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and some soft skills like communication, teamwork and conflict resolution.
Q4: What were your favorite parts of this program?
My favorite part of this program is that it taught me to prioritize my mental health, which made me accept tough situations and stay positive. Secondly, I’m now able to earn my own income through online platforms.
Q5: How has this program made you feel about your digital skills and career opportunities?
Tech is coming to a point where it will take over the world. With these skills I’m confident enough that I can maneuver around my environment for a job.
Q6: What impact do you think the digital freelance program will have on your life?
It means I can work remotely and earn income from anywhere in the world. It has a significant impact that has increased my flexibility and allowed me to work on my own terms.
Q7: What would you say to encourage others to take part in this program?
I would say that learning computer programs can be incredibly beneficial to individuals, it can help you develop new skills, increase your job opportunities and improve your overall digital literacy.
Q8: What are the next steps for you after this training?
Since I'm an ambitious person, I'll continue working online and boost up my skills on online platforms. If any challenge rises I'll come back for some mentorship.
