Konexio’s second stopover took us to Amman, where supported our partners Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), Jordan, in preparing for a new program launch this summer. The project, set to commence in July with a training of trainers (ToT), will be our first in the MENA region and will provide digital skills training to 60 marginalized youth and refugees across two pilot cohorts, to prepare them for the impacts of the global digital transformation.
Our first stop was at the JRS campus, where we met the JRS officials and set up for the imminent launch of our program and meet our future students. We got to meet the trainers who will be delivering Konexio’s program; these trainers will participate in Konexio’s intensive ToT course from the start July through mid September and will be the link between students and the digital world. We also enjoyed engaging the students, a mix of refugees and locals, with special focus on women’s inclusion. A highlight of our time together was a Q&A between prospective students and Konexio staff, in which we learned about what students hope to gain from the program, and their life situations.
We also met representatives from potential partners, funders, and company supporters. In our meetings, we discussed entrepreneurship, freelancing, and the future of jobs in the MENA region, and shared partnership models aimed at better addressing the needs of migrants, refugees, and vulnerable communities.
